Portugal visa
I’m also doing this rather at the last minute - so some of the requirements, while I could have gotten in time for my appointment, I didn’t due to very inconsistent instructions online.
Doing the math of my stays in Portugal for 2025 will try and plan to stay under the 183 days that determine tax residency. I am booking a place for the winter of 2025/26 already - and by winter, I mean 6 months from October to March. October is more expensive than the other months, so going to take this holiday week to make a decision on that.
I have to figure out a couple work conferences, but will for sure be in the U.S. for part of the spring in 2025. There is much up in the air with one part of my research work based on the incoming political climate in the U.S., so I’m not counting on at least one of the conferences going forward in coming years. This would bring me to the U.S. in April/May and then again in the fall.
I have no plans for this summer yet, but my son and his girlfriend are moving into the house and taking over the mortgage in August - they would never get my mortgage rate and we really love the house. So glad they love the land and house and can afford to take that over in a lease to own.
